Matt & John’s Big Day at Falside Mill
What happens when you mix a first Tinder swipe, a Nando’s date, and a pair of split jeans? You get the perfect match that is Matt and John! Their love story started with a cheeky chicken dinner and ended with one of the most joyful wedding days I’ve had the pleasure of capturing.

From First Swipe to Forever
Matt and John’s first date set the tone for their relationship: full of laughs, love, and a wee touch of chaos. After chicken at Nando’s, they headed to South Queensferry Harbour for ice cream (sharing one spoon, mind you—cute or what?), followed by a trip to Edinburgh Dungeons. The highlight? Matt splitting his jeans and making a mad dash to Primark. Fast forward a few months, and Matt popped the big question…well, sort of. He asked John to be his boyfriend during a Spice Girls gig while Wannabe blasted through the speakers. Absolute legends!
Before long, they’d moved in together with John’s son Miles and their furball James. Fast forward again to the year of their Falside Mill Wedding: they’d just renovated their house, started new jobs, and then topped it all off with a cracking wedding day.

The Wedding Day
Matt and John kicked off their wedding celebrations with a stay at Morton of Pitmilly before heading to the stunning Falside Mill. And let me tell you, Falside Mill was the perfect backdrop for their day—rustic charm meets modern vibes, just like this pair. From heartfelt vows with their humanist celebrant Cate Reid to the dance floor antics, it was non-stop joy from start to finish.
Their suppliers were top-notch, too. Rob at Black Fern Media worked his magic behind the video camera, and Lorna from Flowers at the Barn brought the most beautiful blooms. The lads looked pure dashing in their outfits from 21st Century Kilts Edinburgh—a mix of classic kilts and modern suits. And the food? Absolutely banging, thanks to A&D Catering.
Entertainment was on point with FionnMusic serenading everyone and performing a few magic tricks. Then Magic Gold Star brought the house down with their tunes. The venue sparkled with light-up letters from Platinum Discos and dreamy backdrop lighting by Stephen Leslie Lighting. Oh, and the cake? Made with love by their friends and family. Honestly, it was a team effort all around!

Working with These Two Legends
Now, let’s talk about Matt and John for a second. These two were an absolute riot to work with! Here’s what they had to say about our time together:
“Rachel is an absolute nutter. We enjoyed working with her every moment as she makes you feel calm and less awkward with a camera pointed in your face both in the pre-shoot and the day of the wedding. Our laughs and smiles were made possible with how crazy she was.”
Not going to lie, I’ll take “absolute nutter” as a compliment any day! It was an absolute honour to capture all the laughs, tears, and moments in between. Matt and John, you’ve set the bar high for Tinder love stories!
